Walking in Grace with the Bereans: We are starting a new study on the Book of Acts. Most of you know it as the "Acts of the Apostles". But it did not become known as that until the second century; it was originally just an written account of an eyewitness to a friend of what he saw happening around him. I think as we go through the book, we might see that it could be more aptly referred to as the "Acts of the Holy Spirit". In the account written by Luke, God takes the apostles, who are still reeling from Jesus’ crucifixion in Jerusalem and changes them into the Hand of God in this world. God takes a rough group of mostly uneducated men that had followed Christ through His public ministry (who were often confused as to what Jesus was doing and sometimes got in the way) and transforms them into a group of men who, through God’s power, changed the world. God also took a man that was antagonistic to Christ and turned him into a voice of the Gospel to the Gentiles. The book of Acts is the fulfillment of the prophecy given to Abraham in Genesis 18:18. And we see the sovereignty of God revealed in Acts that is described in Daniel 2:31-45 and in Galatians 4:4. As we go through the book, we will focus on seeing God's plan unfold and look to understand the role that He has for us, the church, in bringing about His glory on earth.
