Outreach: International Students (USA)

The Rigstads befriend international students to build a relationship with the goal of sharing the gospel. They also disciple those who have come to Christ so that they can then return home as producing Christians.

The Wild Flowers were spectacular (see my Facebook!)  Following a trip through the extraordinary display of God’s artistry we were treated to the finest of American hospitality at a home on Lake LBJ.  For many of the students it was the first time in a Kayak or a Paddle Boat.  Afterwards the feedback on the day was as positive as I have had on any event.

A young Chinese woman/mother who has been at several events invited a number of friends.  This included an email the night before asking if she could bring six more.  Because of the circumstances I was able to gladly reply in the affirmative.  These were two families who recently moved to the US from China.  Both husbands are doing a PhD in civil engineering.   One of the wives spoke no English. The other spoke limited English.  In her limited English she asked, “Are you Christians?”  I replied, “Yes, are you?”  She said, “No but I am very fascinated by Christians.”   I asked her if she would like to get together and talk about Christians and practice English.  She enthusiastically replied, “Yes!”  Pray for “Song” that this will come to fruition.

Friday night we are combining with Austin International Fellowship for a dinner and the showing of The Passion of the Christ.  We expect that at least 80% of the students who will be there will not be Christians.  Also about half of them are finishing up their programs and preparing to return to their home country.  The plan is to provide opportunities for “reflection opportunities” afterwards (groups and one-on-one).   Please pray for the response to this film.

We have invited students to join us at the Easter Sunrise Service … to be followed by a pancake breakfast at Kerby Lane (a local restaurant that specializes in unusual pancakes.

Pray for Chen who is looking for a job here to improve her English before returning.  The time for discipling would be most valuable also.

Dotty and I want to thank you for your prayer for the students that the Lord has placed in our path.  We also want to wish you a most blessed Resurrection celebration.
