Missions: Melissa Gutterson

I had the wonderful privilege of growing up in a Christian home. At the age of four I trusted Jesus Christ as my personal Savior. Even though I got saved at a young age, it wasn’t until the end of my seventh grade year that I devoted my life to the Lord. My junior year in high school I began a girls’ Bible study. Through the hours of preparation and studying God’s word, a passion for full time ministry, specifically missions, began to develop within my heart.
After graduating from High School I attended Philadelphia Biblical University and enrolled in the missions program.  After two years of being in the missions program my pastor at my home church, Faith Baptist Church, asked me to be part of a missions internship.  Through this internship the Holy Spirit began to open my eyes to my need for a trade while on the mission field.  Following this internship, the Holy Spirit led me to pursue an Elementary Education degree at Baptist Bible College, in Clarks Summit PA. Upon graduating, I returned to my home church where I have spent the last three years teaching at Faith Christian School.
God has shown Himself so faithful to me as I have waited for His timing and plan for full time missions work. Through these years of waiting, God has opened incredible doors for me to work with nationals from the country of Colombia, South America. I have spent a total of three months working at a Baptist church in Bogota, Colombia and serving in an orphanage near the church. Through these experiences God has led me to a passion and a vision to serve Him in the country of Colombia.
