EQUIPT Class Schedule
FBC’s education ministry, EQUIPT, has not been holding Sunday School classes through the holiday season, but a new session of classes is about to begin again. All children’s EQUIPT classes will begin on Sunday, January 10th, but some adult classes will resume sooner. Check the schedule below to review the adult class menu and specific start dates.
Adult Equipt Classes
“Growing in Grace with God”
Begins: Sunday, January 3rd
Time: 11:00
Teacher: Mark Walton
Location: Mt. Laurel Campus; Room #142
Description: “Growing in Grace with God” has covered various topics over the past several months, including The Brokenness in the Psalms, the Book of Jonah, Idols of the Heart, and Emmanuel – God with Us, and this January the group is starting a new series called Intercessory Prayer. Recently, Walton felt lead to this topic and decided to center the class around prayer for the next four to six weeks. He says, “Lately, I’ve been moved by the burdens that many Christians have for people that they are close to. I find it is easy to get discouraged by (seemingly) unanswered prayer, which often leads to an inconsistent, unfulfilling, solitary prayer life. However, I don’t think this is how God intends prayer to be. I think God has more for us; He has given us a tremendous opportunity to come before the throne of grace and present our requests to Him. I think He wants to remove our discouragement and draw us into intercessory prayer as part of the process of accomplishing His will, bringing about His glory, and drawing people to Himself. That’s why I’ve felt led to study scripture together – so that we can understand His purpose for prayer.” Walton hopes to examine the ideas people have when they hear the word ‘prayer,’ and uncover which are true and which are false by studying scripture. He encourages anyone who has a burden for someone, feels discouraged in praying, or feels like they may have adopted wrong thinking about prayer to attend the class, and he is looking forward to continue hearing the depth of insight that attendees have been bringing to the class since it began last June.
“Bereans Class”
Begins: Sunday, January 3rd
Time: 9:30
Teacher: Chuck Swanson
Location: Mt. Laurel Campus; Overflow Room #142
Description: The Berean class is open to adults who are interested in increasing their knowledge of God’s Word. The name “Berean” comes from Acts 17:11: “Now the Bereans were of more noble character than the Thessalonians, for they received the message with great eagerness and examined the Scriptures every day to see if what Paul said was true.” The class has been running for almost ten years, and the group is currently studying the book of Acts. They generally do a verse-by-verse study of a book in the Bible. Swanson is looking forward to watching everyone grow in the Lord together and interacting with the class members, having wonderful discussions about God, the church, and one another’s lives.
“Welcome Class”
Begins: Sunday, January 10th
Time: 9:30
Teacher: Scott Roop
Location: Mt. Laurel Campus; Overflow Room #138
Description: If you are newer at FBC, the Welcome Class is the first step to getting connected, understanding our network of ministries, getting to meet other members and our leadership staff, and learning why we do the things we do in a relaxed, informal (food-filled!) environment. Roop looks forward to getting to know new folks, processing questions about salvation, grace, baptism, the Lord’s Supper, a heart-deep relationship with Jesus Christ, and underwater basket weaving… Well, maybe not the basket weaving, but all attendees should look forward to Roop’s sense of humor throughout the process.
“Become One”
Begins: Sunday, January 10th
Time: 9:30
Teacher: Rich & Sherri Crompton
Location: Mt. Laurel Campus; Café
Description: Become One is a class for married couples of all ages – from newlyweds to seasoned couples – who wish to better their marriage or avoid the mistakes others have made. The purpose of the class is to discover sound biblical principles for marriage relationships that include how we respond to our spouse, how we handle conflicts inside and outside our marriage, and how marriage draw us closer to God. During this particular session, the group will be discussing The Turn Around Marriage by Mitch Temple and dabbling in a few concepts introduced in The Two Sides of Love by Gary Smalley and John Trent. The Cromptons have been ministering to married couples for the past ten years and look forward to another great year by providing an interactive class, witnessing Christ-centered change in the lives of class members, and sharing their own lives as they grow closer to Christ and one another.
“Young Families”
Begins: Sunday, January 10th
Time: 11:00
Teacher: Jon Baylor
Location: Mt. Laurel Campus; Café
Description: The Young Families class seeks to uncover practical, biblical truths for raising a family in a way that is pleasing to God.
