Haddonfield Team Prepares for Approaching Launch

Each week since the beginning of summer, a group of dedicated men and women have been meeting regularly to organize, debate, and create the essential systems of FBC’s new Haddonfield campus.  With the September 13th launch date only three weeks away, this group of about thirty leaders and planners is looking at their growing to-do list with excitement and anxious anticipation.

“We need many more volunteers for the Welcoming Committee,” says Jamie Davidson, who has been working closely with the group of organizers.  “Our Welcoming Committee at Mt. Laurel has been such a big part of our FBC tradition, and we want to keep it that way in Haddonfield.”

The new campus’ childcare department is more established than other ministries, but additional volunteers are needed to serve in this department as well.  Fortunately, a nursery for two and three year olds is on schedule to be established in a nearby middle school classroom, and a curriculum for children’s church has already been decided.  The nursery is stocked with cribs and staple supplies, but more teachers are needed for three and four year olds, and more hands can always be used in the nursery.

In the technology department, more recruitment is needed as well.  Most of the equipment has been secured, although the campus could still use a donated laptop, but it is manpower that is most needed.

“We only have a few people who have expressed interest in helping with the technology end, so we would be excited about anyone willing to lend a hand,” says Josh Davidson, FBC web designer.  “We need help running PowerPoint slides and mixing sound during the service.  The commitment doesn’t have to be huge; we just need a few people willing to go on a four to five week rotation.”

Other pending issues range from deciding whether to create a new or shared bulletin, whether the campus should be advertised in local Haddonfield newspapers, and whether more Sunday School classrooms should be secured, but many of these decisions will depend on the number of people that attend, which remains largely unknown.

“Seventy-five people, including children, attended the June picnics,” says Jamie Davidson.  “But it is unclear whether many of them came out to learn more about the new campus and plan to continue attending the Mt. Laurel campus, or whether many intend to regularly worship at the Haddonfield site.”

Whoever ends up comprising most of this church family, Jamie is excited to connect with them.  One of the main goals of the new campus – to unleash people to serve in smaller contexts – is what she is most looking forward to.

“I’m so excited about the small feel and family atmosphere,” says Jamie.  “It takes me back to FBC’s earlier days, when I was growing up in the church before the addition was built, when everyone had to have an active role or it just wouldn’t work.  When a church gets bigger, it’s easier to come for the service and leave quickly after, but in a smaller church, you have to communicate with people.  I’m even looking forward to our children being able to make really strong bonds with the other children attending.”

The Haddonfield campus will be an opportunity for many people to grow, connect, and serve, as well as encourage new faces to attend a service right in their own backyard.  It will be an inspiring chapter in Fellowship’s history to remember the Lord’s ability to meet ever-changing needs and extend the beauty of his Word to a community hungering for truth.
